Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will stay in London at least through December 2017, according to a new press release.

With the Cursed Child script book out this Sunday, Harry Potter fans are more psyched than ever for the much-discussed ‘eighth story’ stageplay currently in previews at the Palace Theatre in London.

Earlier this week, we reported a rumor that the play might reach American audiences sooner rather than later, arriving on Broadway as early as May 2017 after stopping over in Toronto first.

But if that’s really the plan, we’ll be looking at a different (or rotating) cast, because a new statement from the Harry Potter Play ticket office has the play staying in London through December 2017, thus extending its original run by seven months.

A quarter million new tickets will go on sale August 4, for performances running from May 27 to December 10, 2017. Ticket prices start at £15 per part, with the play pledging to make 300 tickets per performance available for £20 or less (per part) to make the play more affordable.

This is obviously great news for European audiences, and bad news for Americans — not to mention the rest of the world. J.K. Rowling has promised fans that “you’ll see it,” but it looks like that reality is still a long way off (unless they surprise us all with a screening, of course).

If you’re interested in the new batch of tickets, note that the online queue for tickets will open on August 4 at 10 a.m. BST at Nimax and ATG (more info on the Cursed Child website), with the tickets officially going on sale at 11 a.m. You can also buy the tickets by telephoning the Box Office at (+44) 0330 333 4813.

You can buy a total of six tickets per transaction.

Meanwhile, we’re gearing up for the midnight release parties of the Cursed Child script book; Hypable will be at GeekyCon in Orlando this weekend, while we’ve also partnered with WORD Bookstore in Brooklyn for a can’t-miss release party!
