This seems really random, and last minute, but today Barnes & Noble quietly announced Harry Potter costume parties happening at stores nationwide this Saturday.

Pottermore seems to be playing a role in the festivities, as their logo is included with the announcement. “Enter our costume contest and scavenger hunt for a chance to win a Nook. Don’t forget to get sorted into a house at Pottermore.com beforehand,” writes Barnes & Noble.

A quick search of Barnes & Nobles in our area shows that numerous stores are particpating in this event. They all describe this as a “Harry Potter Halloween Party” for ages 7 to 16. “Dress up as your favorite Harry Potter character, and join us for a scavenger hunt and costume contest. Best costume wins a NOOK Simple Touch.”

The events appear to all be kicking off at either 6 PM or 7 PM local time. Visit Barnes & Noble’s site to check which stores in your area are hosting these parties.

Earlier today in association with Pottermore, author J.K. Rowling hosted a live web chat where she talked for nearly an hour about her Harry Potter series. One of the highlights was when Rowling stood up for the Hufflepuff house following a beating by a student who asked her a question.

Will you attend a Harry Potter costume party?
