Audible has announced that 1 million copies of the Harry Potter audiobooks have been sold in the four months since being made available.

While Harry Potter audiobooks have been around for years and years, they only recently became available on Audible.com, a popular audiobook service (Which MuggleCast is a proud supporter of!). Three narrators read the books depending on what part of the world you’re listening from. Jim Dale reads the North American version, Felix von Manteuffel reads the German version, and Stephen Fry reads the series for the U.K. and the rest of the world.

That 1 million copies of the audiobooks have been sold in only a third of a year’s time is very interesting when you consider that the books have been out for over a decade. The strong sales may speak to the fact that people are discovering Harry Potter for the first time every single day, thanks in part to the attention things like Pottermore, The Cursed Child, and Fantastic Beasts receive online.

“Decades after the release of J.K. Rowling’s celebrated series, there has never been a better time to be a Harry Potter fan,” said Andy Gaies, Audible’s Chief Content Officer. “Audible listeners are the most voracious readers there are, and now that we’re able to offer the opportunity to enjoy the Harry Potter series seamlessly through the Audible service, our audience is clamoring for these wonderful stories. We’re gratified that the series has picked up steam so quickly on Audible, and look forward to bringing even more listeners to J.K. Rowling’s richly imagined universe through our affordable platform.”

Audible’s line-up of Harry Potter offerings may continue to grow. In a piece on MarketWatch, they hint that The Cursed Child may get the audiobook treatment. This would be a very interesting audiobook to listen to, because it would be the best version of the stage play you could consume without actually seeing the story live.

The Cursed Child — billed as “the eighth story” — will hit book store shelves on July 31. It is a printed version of the upcoming stage play’s script, which opens on London’s West End in the same month.

The script book has done very well on Amazon over the past few weeks, cruising at the #1 spot on the site’s bestseller list.

Harry Potter: It’s still really popular, and there are no signs of it slowing down.
