The Harry Potter stageplay Cursed Child picked up several major accolades at the 2017 Olivier Awards!

Jamie Parker (Harry Potter), Noma Dumezweni (Hermione Granger-Weasley) and director John Tiffany were among the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child talents honored at last night’s Olivier Awards in London.

The play, which debuted last summer on the London West End and is heading to Broadway soon, got a record-breaking 11 nominations and picked up nine awards — another record broken, because such is the magic of Harry Potter.

‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’s’ 2017 Olivier Awards

The stageplay based on J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series won the following awards:

It was further nominated for choreography and outstanding achievement in music.

Having seen the play with its original cast, I can confirm that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child truly deserves all these awards and more.

The performances of Parker, Dumezweni and Boyle stood out to me as particularly powerful in a strong ensemble, and whatever can (and should) be said about the story and its compatibility with Harry Potter canon, the play itself — with all its lights, sounds and practical magic — is spectacular.

Later this summer, Cursed Child is swapping out its entire cast, giving a new set of actors a chance to make the iconic roles their own.

At the ceremony, Noma Dumezweni told What’s On Stage that she’d love to take her Hermione to the Broadway production of Cursed Child, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
