Harrison Ford crashed a small plane in Venice, California this afternoon, leaving the actor with numerous injuries.

Los Angeles news outlets reported on the small plane crash at a Venice golf course for nearly an hour on Thursday before TMZ revealed that the pilot was none other than Ford, who has a history of flying planes (and also crashing them, according to TMZ).

Update 3 (7:15 p.m. pacific): Ford’s publicist says his WW2 vintage plane stalled upon take off and the actor had “no other choice but to make an emergency landing, which he did safely. He was banged up and is in the hospital receiving medical care. The injuries sustained are not life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.” Great news!

Update 2 (5:20 p.m. pacific): Ford’s son took to Twitter to announce his father is “battered, but ok!”:

Update (4:10 p.m. pacific): Ford is in “fair to moderate condition” according to officials at a press conference, though they stopped short of naming him due to privacy laws. He suffered “moderate trauma” and was “alert and conscious” – descriptions that differ from the Associated Press, NBC, and TMZ’s reports (below). A spokesperson said it is rare for a person to crash a plane like this and survive.

TMZ says Ford, who’s 72 years old, “suffered multiple gashes to his head and was bleeding.” He was quickly transported to a hospital where he’s receiving treatment.

The photos below depict the plane after it crashed. As you can see, the plane is largely intact:

The Associated Press reports that the injuries to the pilot were “critical” while a reporter from NBC News tweeted that the actor suffered “serious” injuries:

Ford will co-star in the upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens later this year.
