We have our first look at Hannibal season 2, and it is suitably creepy and disturbing.

Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller has released the teaser poster for Hannibal season 2, and it confirms that the second season of this NBC thriller will air in 2014.

The poster features the wendigo character that was first seen in the seaoson 1 finale. The wendigo represents the true nature of Hannibal Lecter in the mind of Will Graham. The creature is seen here in Hannibal’s suit, which is just downright creepy.

‘Hannibal’ season 2 first look:

We also received our first real look at Hannibal season 2. The image was released as a reward to fans for getting over 1000 retweets over on the @NBCHannibal twitter account.

The photo shows Mads Mikkelsen as Dr Hannibal Lecter and Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford. The pair are clearly at a crime scene, but Will (Hugh Dancy) is notably missing – undoubtably still locked away.

Hannibal’s presence at the scene of the crime indicates that he may be filling in Will’s role as a profiler of the killer. It also tellingly suggests that, at least at this point, Crawford still trusts Lecter despite Will’s accusations.

This photo matches the behind-the-scenes moment snapped by showrunner Bryan Fuller when season 2 filming began, indicating that this was probably one of the first things filmed for the new season.

Hannibal season 2 will air on NBC in early 2014. The season will run 13 episodes, and will kick off with a Japanese food-themed episode titled “Kaiseki”.
