Hannah Simone won our hearts in New Girl, and now she’s headed to ABC to write and star in a comedy based on her family.

Hannah Simone has some exciting things on the horizon with the news that she will write, star in, and executive produce a new comedy for ABC. The show is inspired by Simone’s own, nontraditional Indian family, and will tell the story of a young woman (played by Simone) who is a broke, single 30-something who bonds with her father after he announces that he and his wife are separating.

As Variety reports, Matt Fusfeld and Alex Cuthbertson are set to join Simone in the writer’s room. The three have previously worked together writing for New Girl, so we can’t wait to see what they create for this series. Outside of the two additional writers, there is no news on any other members of the cast or crew or a series name.

Simone was also recently cast to headline a reboot of the superhero show Greatest American Hero. While there was a huge amount of buzz behind the show, and fans were excited to see an Indian-American woman headlining a show that had previously been led by a white man, ABC ultimately passed on rebooting the series. We’re so thrilled that the network and Simone have found another avenue to work together, and we’re so ready for this new series from Simone.

This series will be an important step in increasing racial representation on television, showing a wider range of what family looks like in America. And with Hannah Simone’s great sense of humor behind the story, we know that this show is one that you just can’t miss. We’ll keep you posted as more news breaks on this exciting new sitcom.
