James Cameron just dished some details on Kate Winslet’s Avatar 2 role and it sounds like the actress has her work cut out for her!

Last month, we told you that Kate Winslet would officially be joining the cast of James Cameron’s highly anticipated Avatar sequels. At the time, not much was known about who Winslet would be playing.

Now, thanks to a new interview with Vanity Fair, we’re getting a few more details into the Titanic alumn’s role from Cameron himself.

In the new interview, the director revealed that Winslet has already spent some time on the set of the first of four planned films in Cameron’s Avatar franchise. The director revealed that Winslet has since had the opportunity to get a feel for the world she’ll be stepping into.

Winslet will be playing a character named Ronal in the film and as Cameron puts it, she’s “a character who’s part of the Sea People, the reef people.”

Though Cameron didn’t give too many more details on the character of Ronal, it sounds as though it’ll be a pretty extensive role for Winslet, who has insisted on doing her own water work stunts for Avatar 2.

“I said, ‘All right, that’s fine, we’ll have to teach you how to free dive.’” continued Cameron. “The other actors are up to three— and four-minute breath holds. We’ve already been doing underwater capture. We did a scene last week with six teenagers, well, actually five teenagers and one seven-year-old under water holding their breath for a couple of minutes and acting, actually doing a dialogue scene under water because they speak a kind of a sign language.”

It definitely sounds as though Winslet has her work cut out for her when it comes to the physicality of the role!

Avatar 2 is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2020, with Avatar 3, 4, and 5 following in 2021, 2024, and 2025.
