Whether you love them or hate them, the Transformers movies definitely have their place in the pop culture zeitgeist, and it looks like Hailee Steinfeld is considering joining the franchise.

Variety reports that Steinfeld is in talks to lead the upcoming spinoff film Bumblebee, which will center its story around the golden yellow protector. Further details surrounding Hailee Steinfeld’s character are being kept close to the vest, but as the cast takes shape, surely her role will become clearer.

Bumblebee played a key role in the original Transformers movie as the protector of Shia LaBeouf’s character, Sam Witwicky, as he became involved in the chaos surrounding the cube. The yellow bot went on to feature prominently in all the Transformers films, and will appear in this summer’s Transformers: The Last Knight when it hits theatres June 21.

The director of Kubo and the Two Strings, Travis Knight, is attached to helm the project, which would be his live action directorial debut. This looks to be the beginning of a new franchise as the studio is interested in expanding the Transformers world.

Christina Hodson has penned the script, whose previous writing credits include the Katherine Heigl starring Unforgettable, and 2016’s thriller Shut In.

Would you see another ‘Transformers’ movie if Hailee Steinfeld was involved?
