Guy Ritchie has added a surprising, er, player to his King Arthur team.

Yes, we know, another King Arthur movie series is in development. And it’s not even a movie follow-up to BBC’s Merlin series! (Although Katie McGrath does, apparently, have a bit part.)

But Guy Ritchie’s take on the classic legend is shaping up quite nicely, with Charlie Hunnam as King Arthur, Jude Law as Vortigern, Eric Bana as Uther Pendragon, and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere.

Film Divider has learned of another addition though, which has us scratching our heads: English footballer David Beckham has landed a cameo in the film.

According to Film Divider, Beckham is set to appear in a very pivotal scene.

“As the film tells a King Arthur origin story, there’s going to be a version of the scene where Excalibur gets drawn from the stone. This is where Beckham factors in,” the website writes.

This just opens up a whole new realm of possibilities! Does Beckham try to pull the sword out of the stone, and when it doesn’t work, he kicks the stone and sends the sword flying?

Or what if he just stands there in the crowd in full football gear, and nobody bats an eye?

You might think these are ludicrous suggestions, but Film Divider does in fact suggest that there are “football puns” written for the scene, and we’ll get the sense that Beckham’s character “fancies himself a big player” in the story.

This movie is honestly beginning to feel a lot like Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and we are totally okay with that.

‘Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur’ is set to premiere in 2016.
