If you’ve been waiting (im)patiently for information on Guillermo del Toro’s next movie, you’re in luck!

The beloved director has backed out of a few projects lately, including Pacific Rim 2 and Justice League Dark. Both films are stilling moving forward, albeit with different directors in place.

That has left some fans wondering what could be next for the man behind such cult classics as Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth, and his latest, Crimson Peak.

The answer to that question is The Shape of Water, which began filming in Toronto on Monday, August 15, according to Fox Searchlight Pictures (via EW).

We don’t know much about this next project, but we do know it takes place in America, during the Cold War, in 1963. It stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Octavia Spencer.

And not only is del Toro directing, but he’s also co-writing the scipt along with Vanessa Taylor (Game of Thrones, Divergent).

The plot is currently unknown, but Fox has said the movie will have mysterious and magical elements. For anyone who knows del Toro’s habit of using Doug Jones in his films, it’s not hard to guess that the actor will once again be donning some fantastic makeup and prosthetics in order to transform into an inhuman character.

In fact, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, del Toro said as much, stating, “We have spent nine months creating and designing this creature, which is the longest time I’ve spent, ever, designing any creature, and I’m very much in awe of it.”

That all but promises we’re going to get a new creature the likes of which we have never seen before, and there’s no doubt Doug Jones is going to bring it to life as he always does.

Once new plot details become available for the project, we’ll share them with you!
