Bad news for Justice League Dark fans: Guillermo del Toro is no longer attached to direct the movie adaptation.

Warner Bros. and DC are currently developing Justice League Dark (which is not affiliated with the other Justice League movie currently in production).

The dark comic book adaptation has been in the works for a while, with Guillermo del Toro working on the script and reportedly set to direct.

But now, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that del Toro, who is currently working on Pacific Rim 2, is no longer attached to the project after a recent Warner Bros./Vertigo adaptation reshuffle.

Justice League Dark, also known as Dark Universe, is an ensemble superhero series featuring DC Comics characters Constantine, Swamp Thing, Madame Xanadu, Zatanna, Shade and Deadman.

Last we heard from del Toro back in late 2014, he was still very much invested in Dark, and even revealed that he was open to Constantine‘s Matt Ryan reprising his role in the movie.

We don’t know why he’s no longer involved — could be anything from a scheduling conflict to creative differences — but this is only the latest in a series of DC director changes.

Earlier this year, we learned that Michelle MacLaren had dropped out of Wonder Woman; she was swiftly replaced by Patty Jenkins.

Aside from prepping Pacific Rim 2, Guillermo del Toro is also developing a gothic horror movie titled Crimson Peak.
