Over the past few weeks news has been gradually leaking regarding casting for Star-Lord, the leading man in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, but now we have news on some of the smaller roles.

Latino Review, which has been a reputable source for Marvel news in the past, reports that Marvel is seeking Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler for comedic roles in the cosmic-based film. Carrey is no stranger to comic-book films having played The Riddler in Batman Forever and Colonel Stars and Stripes in the upcoming Kick-Ass 2, but if Sandler took this role it would be his first to date.

Judging by the concept released at Comic-Con last year it’s quite easy to guess which role this is for. The team really only has two comedic members, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, and considering Groot only says his name it’s likely that Marvel is seeking these big names for Rocket. If this is right, this would presumably be a voice-based role.

The site also adds three new names to the list of actors in the running for Star-Lord. Allegedly Marvel is testing Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games), Chris Lowell and Cam Gigandet (Twilight) for the character, who also goes by Peter Quill.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to be released in August 2014 and filming begins later this year. A new ongoing comic book focusing on the team launches next month for anyone wanting to know more about them before more news hits.
