Marvel and director James Gunn have released the first poster and trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, and frankly, it’s really great.

The new Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 trailer and poster perfectly capture the rock-and-roll vibe of the first movie while teasing new things to come in the second.

From left to right: Nebula (played by Karen Gillan), Yondu (Michael Rooker), Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), and Dave Bautista (Drax).

It also has a very Guardians tagline: “Obviously.” It reminds us of the first movie’s: “You’re welcome.”

… And did you catch him? Did you catch Baby Groot standing by Star-Lord’s foot?

Speaking of Star-Lord, we’d love to know what his shirt says underneath his jacket.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2’ trailer

Marvel released the first “sneak peek” roughly one hour after debuting the poster (There goes wondering if we’d see a trailer with next month’s Doctor Strange!). The unexpected release appears to have been caused by a leak in international territories. No worries — we’re not complaining. Watch the first Guardians of the Galaxy 2 trailer below:

Hooked on a feeling, Blue Swede, 1973. That song belongs to Peter Quill, and it’s nice to hear it come back in a big way for the first Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer.

The trailer doesn’t provide us with many plot details, but it gives us plenty of epic shots of the team. It’s obvious they’ve come together and are closer than ever — Drax gives Peter a hug, after all — but there also seems to be a bit of confusion in Peter and Gamora’s relationship. Peter is a dancer and Gamora, well, she’s a warrior and an assassin. She does not dance.

There are also a few shots in the trailer that got us really excited, including Nebula being unhooded by mysterious figures. But, of course, what would a Guardians trailer be without Rocket weilding a gun and a little hello from Baby Groot? Is he wearing a miniature Star-Lord-inspired jacket!?

What do you think of the ‘Guardians’ trailer?
