Upon the announcement of the 2014 People’s Choice Awards nominations, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy has landed not two, not four, but five nominations. As a show on its tenth season, many fans are ecstatic with the fresh show recognition.

Patrick Dempsey (Dr. Derek Shepherd) – a previous PCA winner – landed the nomination for Favorite Dramatic TV Actor. Dempsey recently tweeted his appreciation, giving many fans the hope that he might attend the award show.

And, that’s not the only award Dempsey is featured in. Excitement has rocked the fandom upon the nomination of couple Derek Shepherd & Meredith Grey (played by Ellen Pompeo) for Favorite On-Screen Chemistry. The married characters’ relationship has gone through a rocky ten years, and the couple (affectionately known as MerDer) has a devoted fan following who are quite excited at the recognition.

Dempsey and Pompeo’s real-life friendship seeps through the roles of their characters, and in a 2012 interview with TVLine, Dempsey said: “We’re like a married couple at this point. We’ve been together for nine years. We’ve gone through everything. We have a lot of fun.” [source]

Another talented Grey’s original, Sandra Oh (Dr. Cristina Yang), is nominated for the Favorite TV Dramatic Actress category, the award won by costar Pompeo in 2013. Sadly Oh has stated that, after ten years, this tenth season will be her last [source]. Perhaps winning an award or two would prove as a nice sendoff. Oh is often praised for her multi-dimensional acting abilities, and it’s no surprise she ended up in this category.

Oh and Pompeo are related to yet another nomination, as well, for their characters Meredith & Cristina, in the Favorite Gal Pals category. The friendship between the two on-screen surgeons has lasted since the very first episode, and ten years later – in Oh’s last season – here they are.

Lastly, yes, the show did get the nomination of Favorite Network TV Drama. After ten seasons one might grow surprised at such a long-running show still earning recognition. Regardless, executive producer Shonda Rhimes said in a recent interview with TV Guide that “nobody sees Season 10 as being our final season…” Interesting. [source]

Do you think Grey’s is still well-deserving of its nominations?
