Rejoice Grey’s Anatomy fans! Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey are officialy returning for two more years of drama at Grey + Sloan Memorial Hospital.

There has been much speculation on whether or not Pompeo and Dempsey would return to Grey’s Anatomy following the announcement that Sandra Oh was leaving. Now fans can breathe easy knowing Meredith and Derek will be back for at least two more seasons.

Even though ABC has not yet officially picked up Grey’s Anatomy for season 11 or season 12 – it is now clear that they will. The news comes days after ABC president Paul Lee announced he expected the drama to continue for many more years. Perhaps he was foreshadowing the impending contract renewal?

The rest of the originals, including Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr., Chandra Wilson, all have contracts that will expire at the end of season 10. Sara Ramirez, who joined Grey’s Anatomy in season 2, also has her contract expiration approaching this season. There has been no word on contract renewal for the rest of the cast.

So far this season Derek has been dealing with taking a step back from work to help Meredith and raise their children, while Meredith has been stepping up at work with a new project, as her friendship with Cristina crumbles.

Surely, Grey’s Anatomy season 11 will feature a Meredith learning how to exist without Cristina, who will be leaving by the end of the season. Season 11 could be the year that McDreamy becomes Meredith’s McPerson!

Thanks, TV Guide.

Are you glad to hear Pompeo and Dempsey will be back on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?
