The Grey’s Anatomy season 12 finale delivered an emotionally packed episode with a few surprises to keep us on the edge until next season!

It’s the day of Amelia’s wedding and Meredith is starting off the day by laying in the grass with Alex, because why not. She thinks the wedding is doomed, and we learn that Alex still doesn’t know why Jo won’t marry him. Meanwhile, Amelia’s starting off the day by arguing with her mother on the phone. After being questioned if she’s sober its quite clear that Mrs. Shepherd doesn’t approve of the quickie wedding. It looks like no one else in the family is coming either so Amelia shuts herself away to cry.

A shortage in the staff means that Bailey isn’t sure if she can make it to the wedding. Ben of course, offers up his help but he’s still on suspension and Bailey lets it slip that she doesn’t trust him with patients yet. Will she even be ready when his suspension is up?

Maggie is very worried about Amelia, but Meredith is still taking the rough approach and yells at her to get out of the bathroom. Owen rushes to the rescue and tells Amelia that her family doesn’t have to get it because he does and they only need each other to be there. It gets Amelia to come out but she makes him promise to close his eyes, which is good because her hair is all pinned up.

Alex heads back to the loft to grab his suit for the wedding and is surprised when Jo suddenly says they should make a baby. She says that she loves him and is all in, but when he asks why they can’t get married she still won’t answer him. Then he starts grabbing more than his suit and looks ready to leave. All Alex wants is a life and a family, something real to hold onto at the end of the day. Jo still doesn’t have answers for him as he’s walking out the door.

Riggs and Meredith have a cute interaction at the hospital when she runs in for a bit. He’s surprised to see her and asks if she has time before the wedding. Meredith doesn’t want him to get any ideas but he seems to be on the same page as her.

At the church, Owen is about to get ready and is glad he has April by his side as she didn’t let him forget anything. Too bad she actually forgot the wedding bands back at Meredith’s house and has to rush out to get them with Ben. Amelia gets nervous again when she over hears Owen telling Meredith that Cristina doesn’t know about the wedding. Plus she’s upset that neither Derek nor or father is alive to walk her down the aisle.

Meredith gets to Amelia’s dressing room just in time to watch her meltdown. Although Amelia thinks that Meredith is rooting against her, Meredith says that Amelia reminds her of herself. Meredith says that she’ll do whatever Amelia needs her to do, and apparently what she needs is for someone to help her get out of there. It’s pretty hilarious to watch Amelia, Meredith, and Maggie run out of there all dolled up in the rain. When Owen finds out he thinks there’s probably a good reason and that they’ll come back.

April finds Owen and Amelia’s rings just in time for her to realize how strong her contractions are. Instead of leaving Meredith’s house she has to sit down. Ben wants to get her to the hospital but April is worried they will get stuck out in his car, she’s ready to deliver at the house, so they compromise and call an ambulance. When Ben does a pelvic exam on April he realizes that the baby is facing the wrong way and the cord is wrapped around it’s neck.

At a gas station, while slipping slurpees, Amelia accuses Meredith of making her run. But they both know that’s not true. Amelia is worried that she can’t think of a good reason why she wants to marry him and maybe he doesn’t love her as much he did Cristina.

After slushies, the girls head back to the church where Amelia has a decision to make. Meredith tells her that Owen does believe there are more than one great loves in a life and that’s why he’s marrying her. Weber is also proof that it can happen.

Ben preps April for a c-section that’s going to happen right in Meredith’s kitchen. Luckily he’s able to get Arizona on the phone for instructions and finds an old medical case. But before Ben can do it he needs Miranda’s approval and trust, which she gladly gives. Over the phone Jackson has to listen as April screams when Ben cuts into her.

A little flash forward has Jackson rushing outside to meet the ambulance as April arrives unconscious. Ben has the baby girl wrapped safely in his arms. Luckily, Bailey is able to stabilize April in surgery.

A very drunk Jo tells DeLuca that the reason she can’t marry Alex is because she’s already married. She had to run away from her husband to save herself from abuse and can’t divorce him or else he will find her. If she tells Alex, she’s worried that he will try and defend her. Apparently, Alex doesn’t even know her real name. Unfortunately, Alex also walks in at a time that makes it look like DeLuca is making a move on Jo when he’s actually just trying to comfort her.

Maggie does head back into the church but doesn’t want to see Owen before the ceremony. So Meredith tells him to be ready in ten minutes and Riggs delivers the rings for April. As Amelia is walking down the aisle, Riggs and Meredith share a look. Cue awkward moment when Maggie leans over and admits that she likes Riggs.

Seeing everyone else happy and healthy has Arizona realizing some things. Callie is miserable and Sofia has noticed. So Arizona decides to let Callie take her to New York on a few conditions. Arizona wants to make things right and have everyone be happy so that Sofia can be too. And now, Callie is gone for good.

I look forward to seeing where everyone will be in Grey’s Anatomy season 13, especially Meredith. Will she keep things going with Riggs or will she end it for Maggie’s sake? I’m actually really rooting for Meredith so I hope she does what’s best for her, and not worry about Maggie. Although I do hope that Maggie can find a little romance for herself again.

Watching what happens between April and Jackson will also be a highlight. Will co-parenting turn into romance or will they stay strictly friends? Surely almost loosing April will make him realize how much she means. Plus look how cute that little baby girl is!
