The moment you’ve been waiting for has arrived. Grey’s Anatomy season 12, episode 2 finally introduces the new Chief of Surgery.

Shoulders back, eyes up, confidence in check. Miranda Bailey is hitting the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial tonight with a new title. Grey’s Anatomy season 12, episode 2, “Walking Tall,” will introduce its new Chief of Surgery, Dr. Miranda Bailey.

Previously on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

A perky new candidate for chief may have charmed the hospital board, but she rubbed Bailey the wrong way. Her confidence rattled, Bailey doubled down with help from Ben and showed the board the type of chief that Grey Sloan Memorial needs. Someone who understands that the history of the staff and the building is a vital part of its future.

Speaking of history, Amelia, Meredith, and Maggie under one roof may be a bit destructive. It took communication (and a sledgehammer) but this living arrangement is a work in progress.

Tonight on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Bailey is not the only doctor transitioning into a new role on tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy. Meredith is figuring out what it means to be a single mom, anatomy teacher, and practicing surgeon. Amelia must define her relationship with Owen. And, perhaps most interesting of all, April and Jackson need to dust off their sparing gloves and figure out where their marriage stands.

Before Kepner can figure out if she can still take the title “wife,” she must first get rid of the label “Patient Zero.” After returning from the Middle East, Kepner breaks out in a rash that forces her into isolation. There will be no epidemics on Bailey’s watch.
