Grey Sloan Memorial has seen its fair share of impressive surgeries, but it has also witnessed a great deal of loss at the hands of the country’s best surgeons. Those losses made the surgeons stronger, but tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy season 11, episode 13 places a singular mind under the care of a surgeon looking to prove herself.

If the surgery is a loss, the lessons learned may be career ending for more than the patient left on the table.

Last week, it was Herman versus the cork board and Amelia versus the gathering of doctors eager to hear her plan of attack. As the final weeks before her operation wind down, Herman books surgery after surgery trying to save as many infant lives and teach Arizona a myriad of skills. But the clock runs out before Herman can take every card off of her bucket list board and her own surgery is placed on the OR board.

With Herman’s brain in Amelia’s hand, Arizona is left to fly solo on her first neonatal surgery on Bailey’s patient. But tensions run high not only in Arizona’s OR, but in Amelia’s as well. When a crucial part of the surgery becomes a race against the clock, Amelia makes a risky move that jeopardizes her own health.
