This week Dr. Herman’s tumor takes center stage, but this case is not just affecting one surgeon in the hospital. Find out how Herman’s tumor became Grey’s Anatomy‘s tumor.

Dr. Herman’s tumor is providing the hospital with more than just a great medical challenge. As Amelia Shepherd and Stephanie Edwards begin their collaboration, Herman begins one of her own. She may play the tumor card to get a nice couch and inadvertently cause some additional pressure on Amelia, but it is all in good spirits. As good as they can be, at least.

Lets take a look at the ways Dr. Herman’s prognosis is inspiring confidence across Grey Sloan Memorial.

Arizona makes a friend

Last week Arizona made a remark that since she and Callie called it quits, she is going it alone. At her temporary residence, Alex has Jo running around with no pants and at the hospital all of her friends were Callie’s friends. Herman is the first person who is exclusively her own. Finally bonding with her mentor over her own shortcomings opens Arizona up to looking at Herman as more than a teacher, slowly approaching the lines of friendship.

Edwards moves on

After Jackson left her at the altar and she delivered the news of their baby’s diagnosis, Edwards needs something to separate her from her past. There is no doubt that the resident is a great doctor. Dr. Herman’s case is the perfect opportunity not only for her to learn from one of the best, but be a part of a landmark operation. Edwards needs the boost to her confidence and working with Amelia will not be an easy road, but a rewarding one regardless of the results.

Amelia proves herself

It’s been a rough year for Amelia in Seattle. Her brother tried to take her job, she was outed as a former drug addict, and the entirety of the life she worked hard to rebuild was knocked off kilter. But Herman’s case marks a turning point in her eyes. Beyond an ego boost, Amelia is out to prove that this case is more than a doctor showing off and more so that she is actually an excellent surgeon doing her job. Herman mounts the pressure with her jibes about babies needing surgery and Amelia tinkering around with other patients, but she has the patient’s support.

Now Amelia needs to work on building a team that can understand her mission and be ready for anything.

Hunt begins to reemerge

Owen may be on board with Herman’s surgery, but this is testing him to try things out as well. With Amelia’s self confidence kicked up a notch, she takes a risk in her personal life. One that is reciprocated by Owen. Watching Amelia work on making Herman’s case and seeing the renowned surgeon dropping her guard in her final days pushes Owen to finally take a break from wallowing in Cristina land.

This case is tiptoeing on the former glory of a huge Grey’s Anatomy storyline. It will rally the doctors to work together, push others to their professional limits, and hopefully give one doctor a shot at a long life.
