Another natural disaster is about to wreak havoc on Grey’s Anatomy season 11, episode 15. Do you remember the other travesties the doctors have faced over the years?

Residents of Seattle are probably wondering how so many disasters can happen to one city in 11 years. This week, Grey’s Anatomy season 11, episode 15 adds another natural disaster to the list when an earthquake literally shakes things up at Grey Sloan Memorial.

An earthquake may only last for five minutes, but the aftershock and damage caused during that time span is the where the real threat is. The results following the earthquake are nothing the doctors haven’t seen before. When it comes to dealing with circumstances beyond their control, there is no hospital team better equipped than the doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial.

Here are just a few of the times over the last 11 years where the doctors were put to the test by mother nature and catastrophic events.

1. The Ferry Boat Accident

The first large scale disaster to hit the Seattle area occurred mid-season 3 when a commuter ferry was struck by a barge. With hundreds of victims in need of medical attention, the incident prepared the doctors to talk others through surgeries, work through on-site triage, and focus on saving the life of one of their own in an abyss of destruction.

2. A shooter locks down the hospital

Sometimes patient care requires a followup appointment, but those only occur when the patient is alive. A grieving husband takes out anyone who crosses his path in the hospital in order to ensure that Derek Shepherd dies. As the doctors got their patients to safety, they turned their focus to the next task at hand, protecting their own. On a scale of one to terrifying, the lockdown ranks almost par with having your hand on a bomb, but at least the threat to their lives was isolated in that situation.

3. Flooding the halls

Rain is nothing new to the Seattle area, but way back in season 5, there was one storm that brought the water inside the hospital. A small leak turned out to cause more trouble than a few drops of water on George O’Malley’s notebook. Richard Webber not only gets a lesson in plumbing (hint: turn off the water before fixing the leak), but the doctors learn the merits of keeping a sterile umbrella in the OR.

4. ‘The Perfect Storm’

At the close of season 9, a monster storm descends on Grey Sloan Memorial, causing the second major power outage of the series. As the hospital begins to run out of resources, a bus filled with children crashes and catches fire in the parking lot. Oh, and Meredith goes into labor! Oh, and she needs a C-section! Richard also gets another trade lesson, this time in electrical maintenance. Do not touch live wires while standing in a pool of water.

7. Plane down

Sometimes mechanical issues force the doctors to adapt to their conditions when nature isn’t the primary cause of their distress. When the doctors are stranded in the wilderness, they have to use all their resources and training to triage each other and try to save as many of their own as possible.

6. Elevator operation

One of the most notorious surgeries in Grey’s Anatomy canon occurs when George O’Malley and Alex Karev get trapped in an elevator and a patient requires heart surgery. George recovers quickly from his days known as 007 and successfully operates with only Dr. Burke’s guidance through the elevator doors. We wonder, is Maggie familiar with this story? She would be able to reflect upon how she would handle a similar situation as a cardio surgeon when she gets trapped in this week’s episode.
