Grey’s Anatomy promised a bombshell for the ninth episode of the season, “I Was Made For Lovin’ You,” and delivered. Cast members Ellen Pompeo, Sarah Drew and Jesse Williams weighed in on the surprising events from the latest episode.

Remember that blind rumor stating that the leading lady of one of 12 shows would be pregnant in the near future? We now know Glee‘s Rachel Berry, Homeland‘s Carrie, How I Met Your Mother‘s Robin and seven other leading ladies are safe from a future baby because it appears Meredith Grey’s hostile uterus has decided to be less hostile, at least for now.

Meredith actress Ellen Pompeo wasn’t as surprised about the pregnancy as we were, however, having heard rumors last season. Her character is keeping it quiet for now.

“She’s super-nervous because she’s had a tricky past with that miscarriage,” Pompeo told TVLine. “That’s why she decides not to tell Cristina or anybody else until after the first trimester.

In fact, the whole gang will find out together at a dinner outing, though Cristina catches on to her bestie’s pregnancy before, the actress revealed.

“[Cristina] actually figures it out on her own [before that], because she sees me eating, and [notices] my boobs got big — which is funny because, obviously, my boobs didn’t get bigger,” she told TVLine with a laugh. “But Cristina says to Derek, ‘I know. I already know. She’ll tell me when she’s ready.'”

Other than Meredith’s bun in the oven, the other big plot point of the night had to do with Jackson and April. The couple split after finding out April wasn’t pregnant after all.

“The problem with April is she speaks before she thinks and then has to backpedal because she constantly digs herself into a hole, especially with Jackson,” April actress Sarah Drew told The Hollywood Reporter. “What’s communicated to him at the end of this episode is, ‘Oh, you don’t want this.’ That’s not necessarily true for April, it’s just she’s so totally relieved that she doesn’t have to have a shotgun wedding coming from the background she’s coming from.”

While both Drew and Jesse Williams (Jackson Avery) slightly hint at the possibility of the two reuniting, it seems they might first find love elsewhere.

“That’s what makes the story interesting: People start to really root for Jackson and April and since we’re Grey’s Anatomy, we’ve got to pull them apart and have them see what else is out there and how that makes them feel toward one another and see what, if anything, will draw them back together,” Williams said.

Check out the promo for next week’s intern-centric 9×08 “Love Turns You Upside Down” which will bring Neve Campbell to Seattle Grace as Liz Shepherd, Derek’s sister.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

Do you think Meredith will go full term with this baby? Will April and Jackson get back together?
