Grey’s Anatomy fans were shocked to learn that Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew were being let go from the series, and ever since then star Ellen Pompeo has been continually been blamed by media and the fandom.

When Deadline broke the news about Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew being let go from the series, they were quick to note that Ellen Pompeo had recently signed a new contract that was set to pay her $20 million a year.

Of course, it came across that they were speculating that the two events had a connection. As though Pompeo’s big pay day was to blame for her co-stars being let go. Naturally Pompeo reacted to shame the media outlet for trying to pit the actresses against one another.

Showrunner Krista Vernoff also reacted to the story to defend Pompeo:

Deadline ended up adding a note to the article that, “While Deadline’s story stressed that the decision for Capshaw and Drew’s exits was strictly creative, the mention of the big new deal for Pompeo, which helped secure a renewal for Grey’s, led to online speculation about a possible connection between the two. There is no such connection that we are aware of.”

But the drama didn’t end there for Pompeo, when she retweeted Jessica Capshaw’s first scene on Grey’s Anatomy fans began to attack her for not responding to the decision sooner and accusing her of being disrespectful. Pompeo was having none of that though, and quickly became fed up with being blamed for the situation.

Fans are certainly allowed to be angry about the decision, however, that doesn’t excuse going after the stars of the series for justification.

For now, Pompeo seems to be done with the subject but that doesn’t mean it will stay that way. She’s no stranger to having to stick up for herself so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear more from her about the situation.

What do you think about Ellen Pompeo’s responses to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans?
