Grey’s Anatomy has cast Adina Porter in a guest-starring role for the second episode of season 9.

Porter will play Dr. Ramsey – a Boise Hospital doctor who treats the surviving doctors after the season 8 finale plane crash, TV Guide reports.

As creator Shonda Rhimes has revealed, the season premiere episode will take place two to three months after the plane crash. The medical drama will return to the scene of the crash in the second episode of the season with a flashback to when the survivors were rescued.

Porter’s other credits include her role as booker Kendra James in The Newsroom and as Tara’s mother in True Blood.

Porter joins Desperate Housewives alum Steven Culp, Friday Night LightsGaius Charles, True Blood‘s Camilla Luddington and Veronica MarsTina Majorino as the new additions to season 9.

As you’ll recall, season 8 left viewers wondering who would survive the plane crash that killed Lexie Grey and injured Meredith, Cristina, Derek, Mark and Arizona. While Rhimes revealed some of the survivors, we also know that Eric Dane (Mark Sloane) will only appear in a couple episodes before exiting the show. No word yet on how he leaves, but Patrick Dempsey (Derek) tweeted spoilers back in July.

Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC Sept. 27 with “Going Going Gone” as its season premiere episode.
