Tonight’s TGIT includes Grey’s Anatomy 15×11, and How To Get Away With Murder 5×11. Here’s our thoughts on what happened!

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ 15×11 ‘The Winner Takes It All’:

It’s an emotional day to save lives on Grey’s Anatomy. Catherine is gearing up for her big surgery by getting another CT scan. To get emotionally ready for it Weber heads to an AA meeting before going to the hospital.

Meredith tries to be there for Weber too, but he tells her to go visit Thatcher instead. It seems like they don’t know how much longer Meredith’s father will be alive.

She finally gives in and goes see him and things are super awkward for some time. They don’t really know what to say to each other, because there’s so many things left between them. Eventually Thatcher tells her about all the places he went to go visit and that makes Meredith lash out that he just left her.

When Meredith accuses Thatcher of not even trying to fight for their relationship, he tells her that he did come back home for Derek’s funeral even though she didn’t see him. Apparently, he also tried reaching out to her but she never called him back. This is news to Meredith.

After they talk about Lexie, she also breaks the news to him that she has another sister. It looks like Weber never told Thatcher about the daughter he had with Ellis. He still says that he doesn’t regret marrying Ellis even though their marriage wasn’t very happy.

They also talk about Meredith’s kids and how they both wish that he’d met them. It’s at this time that Thatcher takes his last breath and Meredith seems resigned to it but does bring gifts from him to her kids.

For me, these moments didn’t pack the emotional punch that Grey’s Anatomy was hoping for. If they’d had the pair work on their issues more slowly over time it might have been sadder to see Thatcher go. But it’s hard to make it seem like it will have a real impact on Meredith when he was only back in her life for a few hours.

Meanwhile, Catherine continues to get ready for her surgery and visited the OR room. She gave Jackson all the plans she made for the foundation if something happens to her and also her plans for a party if the surgery goes well.

Jackson and Weber even escort her to the operation when it’s time and have a little dance party in a rare happy moment on Grey’s Anatomy. Maggie offers to watch the surgery and report to Weber and Jackson but they want to stay and watch.

But Jackson has to leave because he can’t stand how Tom is listening and singing to music during the surgery. Just when he leaves, Amelia and Tom realize that they can’t get the tumor lose to they have to close her up to flip her over and go in from another side.

It’s almost too much for them to handle and Tom nearly has a little break down in the middle of the surgery but pulls it together. It’s still not enough though and they can’t get all of the tumor out without risking making Catherine paralyzed.

When Catherine wakes up from surgery and she’s happy to find her hands and feet work. They have to break the news to her that they couldn’t get all of the tumor out. She’s happy that for now she can live even if they have to keep an eye on it.

I hope that this story stays a happy one and the writers aren’t just messing with us to make it sadder down the line. Catherine is a great character to get to watch with all of her achievements and it would seem like a waste to kill her off just to develop Weber and Jackson’s characters more.

‘HTGAWM’ 5×11 ‘Be The Martyr’:

Unfortunately for Bonnie, it looks like she’s finally begun to understand the truth about Miller. It’s getting harder and harder for her to believe that her boyfriend was guilty, so she’s going to have to really pull it together to be an asset for the rest of the season. Now that she knows that what she did was wrong, she’s really going to have to dig deep to come out on the innocent side of things.

Two things about this episode had me exceptionally pumped. First, the fact that Asher didn’t have to keep his secret from the gang for long. Pretty much as soon as he found out the truth, the group knew, so now they can all be behind him in shielding the truth from the authorities.

The next thing was Tegan’s involvement, especially the part where she was pointing out how fine a woman was! It’s becoming increasingly obvious that they’re forshadowing either a ship between Tegan and Annalise or Tegan and Michaela and I am so here for either one. Honestly, just having more Tegan in the show would be enough, but now that the possibility of one of these pairings has been dangled in front of me, I can’t ignore it.

I also love how concerned Laurel is for Christopher. The women are really killing it in How to Get Away With Murder season 5. She knows that her baby has experienced trauma and she’s doing everything she can to shield him from the effects. This is such a refreshing perspective when it comes to TV pregnancy plots. Laurel is actually fighting tooth and nail to be a great mother for her baby, where the baby often becomes a forgotten plot point after a pregnant mother gives birth on TV.

Still so here for Nate 2019! A lesser Nate would have totally cracked under the pressure right now, but How to Get Away With Murder season 5 Nate is staying strong. He loved his father for the brief time they got to spend together, and he’s going to fight for his right to party have lived. No matter the cost.

I feel really bad for Gabriel, as he obviously doesn’t deserve to be behind bars. I hope Annalise can help him and that this results in him becoming an actual part of the Keating 5. At least he can’t do much research into Sam’s murder from where he is!
