Tonight’s TGIT includes Grey’s Anatomy 15×06, Station 19 2×05, and How To Get Away With Murder 5×06. Here’s our roundup of what happened!

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ 15×06, ‘Flowers Grow Out of My Grave’:

It’s the day of the dead, and for some it’s a celebration of ancestors and for others is a reminder of how precious life is.

Meredith has another date scheduled thanks to Cece, but she can’t exactly remember her dates name. She’s also working on a case with DeLuca, and yes I did see all those cute looks he gave her!

But Weber has bad news for Meredith as well, her father is in hospice and only has a few weeks to live. She hasn’t spoken to him in years though and still calls him Thatcher so she just brushes Weber off.

As soon as Meredith see’s Maggie though, she opens up a bit more. She knows she’s supposed to be grieving but she also can’t get over how much of a disconnect there is between them. The question is, should she go and say goodbye to him.

Meanwhile, Link is still trying to win a date with Meredith. Which might be thanks to Jo’s insistence that he keep trying to break down the wall that Meredith puts up.

There’s another cute moment when DeLuca tells Meredith that he’s off the case because the patient was embarrassed about her crush on him. He volunteered to step away from the case to make her feel more comfortable but is down that it means he doesn’t get to work with Meredith anymore. It seems like they’re both looking forward to the next time they can work together though! Ahh, the feels!

During surgery, Meredith talks to Alex a bit about her dad. She doesn’t seem to feel like she needs any closure with her father. Since Meredith actually gave him a piece of her own liver to save him once and he still shut her own, she doesn’t think saying goodbye won’t make her feel any better.

Even though Meredith seems to have made up her mind, she basically ruins her date that night by talking about her parental issues. When she returns to the hospital, Link ends up impressing her when she sees how he cut his hair for a cancer patient. But then DeLuca shows up and is also adorable with how he handled the patient that had a crush on him. I literally laughed out loud when the two realized they were competition for each other.

Teddy goes to see Owen and tell him about the baby, but once they start talking Amelia barges in worried about Betty. They have to leave to go and find Betty so the talk gets postponed. Teddy offers to go with them to look though so this might be the weirdest teenager hunt ever.

Things get even weirder when the three of them go back to the house and Amelia totally freaks out that they can’t find Betty. She yells at Owen for not understanding and says she needs to go to a meeting. So Teddy offers to stay at the house while they go. Can someone say awkward?

Eventually Owen comes back with Leo, and they talk a little bit about how his life has been going. But when Leo gets fussy Teddy doesn’t get the chance to tell him about her pregnancy.

Bailey is still dealing with the very big issue of her stress about Ben’s safety on a daily basis. Especially when she’s taking care of a patient that’s dealing with the inevitability of her death and Bailey can’t get in touch with Ben all day. When she has the chance to go against Alex’s orders and save her patient she does it, even though it might mean trouble for Jo who helps her.

At the end of the episode, all the spirits of Meredith’s friends and family that she’s lost are around her at the hospital. And wow, that’s one way to make viewers get all teary eyed!

‘Station 19’ 2×05 ‘Do a Little Harm…’:

Let’s start with Captain Sullivan. He’s been a bit of a pill this season, but ultimately it’s always seemed like he was trying to make each of the firefighters at Station 19 better prepared and skilled for challenges ahead of them. This episode had him a little grumpier than normal from the get-go.

Whether its throwing full strength punches at the bag in the fitness room, barking reprimands at Gibson and Bishop, or sniping at Chief Ripley, this is not a good day for him. We learn why in the flashbacks that show him arriving to a car accident scene where he recognizes one of the cars involved in the crash. The current day is the anniversary of the day his wife died due to injuries sustained in that crash, and from his best friend, then Lieutenant Ripley.

Bishop’s big secret, her applying for lieutenant, is accidentally revealed by Ripley, and it kicks her and Gibson into a new realm of competition. They take it to a fun place, as they compete for a woman’s number during basic life-saving training for the police department. Sullivan doesn’t like their cavalier attitude during the drills, and singles out Bishop again and again.

Herrera can’t take watching Sullivan pick on her bestie, no matter that Bishop is standing up for herself. Andy steps in and berates her Captain for unfairly singling out a damn fine firefighter over things that don’t deserve his vitriol. At first, I imagined this was going to irk Bishop, but she smiles as her best friend defends her honor.

While all the craziness is going on at the station, Ben is home with Miranda for a rare day off together. He thinks the day is all about reconnecting and enjoying the day, but Bailey has other plans. Ben convinces her to start the day with sex and waffles (best idea ever), but she cannot hold her tongue for long.

Bailey insists that she needs to get something off her chest, and then lays it on her unsuspecting husband: she wants a marriage sabbatical. She wants to not spend every day worrying about whether or not he will come home. Warren doesn’t take this well, as you’d imagine, but ultimately relents his protests and packs his bag.

It’s worth mentioning that there’s a couple of minor threads weaved through this episode that are definitely going to come back sometime soon:

Despite the seriousness of Sullivan’s story, this was one of the funnier episodes of Station 19 we’ve ever had. The levity is sincerely appreciated, and is well balanced by the more serious aspects of the episode. I am happy to learn a little more about what has turned Sullivan into the tyrant he sometimes stomps around as, because he’s a fantastic character that I hope sticks around for a long time.

Next week looks to be another fine episode as Andy faces Sullivan after their confrontation, Ben tries to adjust to this marriage sabbatical, Ryan confronts his criminal father, and a call sends Maya and Andy over a cliff.

‘HTGAWM’ 5×06 ‘We Can Find Him’:

Can someone please tell How to Get Away With Murder season 5 that we’re not on speaking terms anymore? They went and messed with the wrong Leahy, and ruined everything that was good about the world!

If I’m being honest, Nate Sr.’s death is probably the one that has upset me most in the entire series. Especially because of how unbelievably tragic the lead up and the aftermath were. I’m both worried and cautiously excited to see where How to Get Away With Murder season 5 goes from here. Well, at least I will be when the tears dry a little.

Season 5 has been so great so far, with Annalise and her clinic working for Caplan & Gold and kicking ass on her class action lawsuit cases. Tegan and Emmett have been amazing additions to the cast, and the fun, competitive spirit of season 1 is back and better than ever.

Even though the alternate opportunity presented to Annalise sounded wonderful, I was really rooting for her to choose to stay at C&G. Even if it meant that Nate Sr. might have to wait a little longer to get out. When she went the other way, Nate’s face was enough to bring me over to the other side.

And then it all crumbled, and now we have to start from scratch. On one hand, I’m happy that the momentum will be increasing now that Annalise has more motivation than ever, but I’m also concerned that the tone will change too much. I’m really liking the vibe so far this season, so I hope they can find something similar at the new office.

I also hope that at least Tegan will continue to be a big part of the show (even if it’s just through Michaela…) and that Nate will continue to have a good story line for the rest of the season. He’s been pushed around since How to Get Away With Murder began and it seemed like he’d finally found his footing. Hopefully his father’s death will push him in an interesting direction, rather than another confusing or boring one.

On another note, who else is ready for the How to Get Away With Murder spinoff that’s just going to follow Oliver and his mom? Sure, Connor can cameo sometimes, but let’s have mostly Oliver plus mom time, okay?

Finally, I’m staying tuned to see what Bonnie does with everything she learned in the next few episodes, but I’m glad she has Frank by her side to help her through. Thankfully he has Laurel to take over Gabriel watch when he’s busy!
