Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is headed to rehab following an onstage meltdown at the iHeartRadio Music Festival that included 15 f-bombs and ended after the band’s frontman smashed his guitar.

“Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse,” read a statement on the Green Day Facebook page. “We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances.”

The statement referenced the iHeartRadio incident in which Armstrong reacted to a sign showing the band had one minute left on stage.

“You’ve gotta be f—ing kidding me! You’re f—ing kidding me. What the f—? I’m not f—ing Justin Bieber, you motherf——,” Armstrong said before smashing his guitar, flipping off the camera and storming off the stage.

The postponed appearances include Monday’s Red Bull Sound Space webcast, according to CBS Local. No word yet on how this development will affect the band’s arena tour that is supposed to start Nov. 26 in Seattle or his stint as a mentor for Christina Aguilera’s team on NBC’s The Voice.

The 40-year-old rocker was hospitalized for an undisclosed illness in Italy earlier this month, but recovered in time to perform at the Sept. 6 MTV Video Music Awards.

The Bay-area punk band is set to release ¡Uno! – the first part of its album trilogy – Sept. 25, followed by ¡Dos! Nov. 13 and ¡Tre! Jan. 15, 2013. The trilogy follows 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown, which won the Grammy for Best Rock Album. The full ¡Uno! album is streaming on Facebook.
