Warner Bros. has given Alfonzo Cuaron’s upcoming sci-fi film Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, an October 4, 2013 release date.

One of our 13 most anticipated movies of 2013, Gravity has seen a long journey getting to the big screen. Originally set for a November 2012 release, Warner Bros. delayed the project due to the vast amounts of effects work (the film was shot completely on sound stages in 3D), and is also set for an IMAX release. Rumors have it that the film is 60% CGI and includes an opening 20 minute long single shot.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Dr. Ryan Stone (Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Thanks to Box Office Mojo, we know Gravity, Alfonso Cuaron’s first film since Children of Men in 2006, will open against a rather busy weekend slate, including Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Paranoia, starring Harrison Ford and Liam Hemsworth, the Vince Vaughn comedy The Delivery Man and the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Are you looking forward to seeing ‘Gravity’?
