Grant Gustin joins CW’s Arrow and possible spinoff series as Barry Allen, or The Flash.

One of Glee’s favorite antagonists, played by Grant Gustin, has landed the role of Barry Allen, aka The Flash, in three episodes of Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg’s hit series Arrow. Gustin will appear in episodes 8, 9, and 20 of the second season, with the potential to star in his very own hit series.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Gustin is excited to take on this role, saying, “I’m unbelievably excited. I’ve been a lifelong fan of DC Comics, so I can’t be more honored and can’t wait to get started.”

Hypable previously reported the news that Berlanti, Kreisberg, and DC Entertainment’s Geoff Johns were developing a spinoff series for the character of The Flash. The Barry Allen story will also be an origin story similar to what Berlanti and Kreisberg have done with Oliver Queen, played by Stephen Amell, on Arrow.

The twentieth episode will be the potential spinoff episode and will serve as the pilot for the CW to consider. According to Kreisberg earlier this summer, Barry Allen will be introduced as a forensic scientist for Central City who is in Starling City to investigate robberies that connect to his past. Barry Allen is a fan of the Green Arrow and a comic book fan boy, who is unaware of Oliver’s alter ego.

As DC comic book fans are aware, Barry Allen possesses the power of super speed, which will be handled carefully by the producers. Although the worlds of Starling City and Central City will interact, it seems like there will be differences according to Kreisberg. “There will be extraordinary events in the world and the characters will react in the same way.”

Gustin has previously appeared on the CW’s 90210, Fox’s Glee, and CBS’ CSI: Miami.

Berlanti currently has Arrow and The Tomorrow People on the CW and is developing The Mysteries of Laura and Paradise for NBC.
