The new Fox drama Gracepoint starring David Tennant and Anna Gunn premieres this Thursday. For those who’ve already seen Tennant’s Broadchurch, is the new show worth tuning in for?

The answer in short is yes — somewhat. Hypable checked out the first few episodes of Gracepoint and can tell you that while it stays on a similar track as Broadchurch (often cloning the same scenes and settings), it does begin to divert. As showrunners have previously revealed, Gracepoint has a different killer than Broadchurch.

This show is the perfect opportunity for American fans of Tennant (and there are many thanks to Doctor Who) to enjoy his presence on network television. Anna Gunn, best known for her role as Skyler White on Breaking Bad, is another excellent reason to watch.

While Tennant plays very similar characters on both shows, he’s confident that there are differences in their personalities – and in between the shows in general. “There are some characters in Gracepoint that no equivalent existed for in Broadchurch,” he said on a recent conference call. “It didn’t really feel like a repetition, it just felt like you were telling a story that was familiar, but there were enough differences.”

We loved Broadchurch so much that we’re going to stick with Gracepoint to see the big “whodunit” reveal at the end. It’ll be entertaining to see just how closely they followed Broadchurch, and again, acting powerhouses like Tennant and Gunn are reasons alone to tune in.

If you haven’t seen Broadchurch, this is one compelling, can’t-miss drama that you should tune in for this season.
