David Tennant is returning to American television screens tonight for a lead role in a compelling whodunnit drama titled Gracepoint.

The series, as you probably have heard by now, is a clone of the ITV drama Broadchurch which aired last year in the United Kingdom. Tennant starred in that version of the show, too.

Fox had good reason to bring the drama to America, airing every Thursday starting tonight at 9 p.m. eastern. The show is an interesting story about a murder in a small town whose residents have never faced such a disturbing crime. Between the list of potential suspects and the big reveal at the end, the show will keep you captivated from the very start.

Hopefully American audiences will be as interested by Gracepoint as viewers were in the U.K. It helps that Tennant is back, and that the detective he’s working with is played by Breaking Bad alum Anna Gunn.

The show’s cast is rounded out by Kevin Zegers, Jacki Weaver, Sarah-Jane Potts, Jessica Lucas, and Michael Peña.

A trailer for Gracepoint season 1 sets up the show and presents itself like a good recap of episode 1:

A couple of clips from Gracepoint episode 1 offer two decent looks at the show. In this first clip we see the two detectives learning a critical clue:

This clip offers a look at one of the episode’s lighter moments:

“The murder of a young boy in the small town of Gracepoint brings accusations and a nationwide media frenzy, which threatens to tear the community apart,” the synopsis reads.

Whether or not you’ve seen the original show Broadchurch, seeing Gunn in a modern network television setting is worth tuning in for. Meanwhile, Tennant’s presence will be enticing to many Whovians.

Hypable watched the first episode of the Gracepoint premiere and can tell you that it starts very similarly – nearly shot for shot – as Broadchurch did. We’ll try to stop constantly drawing comparisons, but for now they’re inevitable.
