Gotham made its way to San Diego Comic-Con 2016, and we’ve got the scoop on what’s happening in season 3!

In the press room, Ben McKenzie (Gordon), Michael Chiklis (Barnes), Morena Baccarin (Leslie), Cory Michael Smith (Nygma), Sean Pertwee (Alfred) and Drew Powell (Butch), as well as Executive Producer John Stephens, talked about what’s coming up for Gotham season 3. Check out the highlights here.

  1. Things are going to get pretty dark this season.
  2. Nygma always plays the balance — he’s a pretty happy person unless you cross him.
  3. Leslie returns in the very first episode.
  4. She and Jim are in very different places, though.
  5. Leslie is with someone else. This will be a new character.
  6. The new guy is more level-headed than Jim, but Morena Baccarin stressed that this is Gotham and things always change.
  7. EP John Stephens teased the new poison Ivy, saying her aesthetic will be different from past incarnations.
  8. She’ll be in an older body, but still be mentally and emotionally 14 or 15 years old.
  9. She won’t have the fantastic powers she has in the comics, but rather she’s still obsessed with plants.
  10. The Mad Hatter will also have a more realistic take, and he’ll be causing havoc this season.
  11. We’ll be diving into the Court of Owls this season, which will consist of a long arc.
  12. Some of what’s introduced is canon, and some is brand new to the show. But it will put a face to the Court.
  13. The other Bruce Wayne we saw in the finale is not Clayface — he’s someone else, but we don’t know who yet.
  14. Jim will also be riddled with guilt this season (as always). He’ll try to stay out of the drama, but he’s always being pulled back in.
  15. Butch is back with Penguin and they’re up to no good.
  16. Tabitha and he have split, and “sad sack lovelorn” Butch is back. He’s still carrying a torch for her.
  17. Penguin’s story will mimic some real life issues occurring in America right now, but we weren’t given any additional details.
  18. There’s another dynamic in season 3 that will cause stress between Penguin and Butch. (This could potentially be Mooney.)
  19. Michael Chiklis took the job as Barnes because of what will be happening to his character in this season.
  20. The beginning of the craziness for him comes in the fourth episode. This will completely change him and his relationship with everyone around him, including Gordon.
  21. Gordon is no longer with the GCPD, but he’ll be chasing down monsters anyway — for a price.
  22. He still has a certain morality, but it’s far away from what he was like in season 1.
  23. The subtitle of this season is, “Heroes Will Fall,” and this includes Gordon, who will have to work hard to pick himself back up again.
  24. Bruce and Gordon’s paths will converge again, but not until later on.
  25. Gordon’s new love interest is Valerie Vale.
  26. Harvey is Jim’s one conduit to sanity. He’s the one who tells him he has to pull his life back together.
  27. Bruce is finally listening to Alfred this season.
  28. We’ll see both of them in more real life environments, like in the kitchen and taking dance lessons. This is what will create the older, polished Bruce Wayne we are familiar with.
  29. But don’t worry, we’ll also see the pair sparring a lot. (Sean Pertwee says David Mazouz has a mean right hook.)
  30. We also attended the Gotham panel. Check out the highlights below:

  31. We’re six months in the future when season 3 picks up.
  32. New Bruce was created for a reason and his mission will come clear soon.
  33. This new character will also affect Selina.
  34. Ivy and Selina aren’t on good terms when Ivy grows up. The relationship will change dramatically.
  35. Nygma is free, with no alliance to the GCPD. He’s embraced the darker side. He can decide who he is now. It’s a fresh start.
  36. The Sirens is a new club run by Barbara and Tabitha that all the villains will be filtering through this season.
  37. We’ll see cult members who idolized Jerome. Plus, no one ever really dies. “You can’t keep a bad man down.”
