Gotham fans will not be happy about this news. Jada Pinkett Smith revealed today that she doesn’t intend to return for the second season.
Earlier today, Jada Pinkett Smith appeared on LIVE with Kelly and Michael where she was asked about Gotham season 2. Kelly asked if she would be appearing on the second season, to which Pinkett Smith hesitantly replied, “I don’t think so.”
“I signed up for the year, and you know the year is up,” Pinkett Smith explained. “But, there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham, believe you me. There’s a lot of good stuff coming.”
Gotham certainly hasn’t been easy for Fish Mooney this season. Most recently, her character had all of her power taken away by Falcone and had to flee the city. But in doing so, Mooney was captured and taken to a mysterious dungeon where the prisoners were left to fend for themselves.
But being the clever woman that she is, Mooney rose to power among the prisoners and was able to get them to agree to a plan to escape. In doing so she made herself a target by her captors. In order to escape having both of her eyes taken from her and donated to someone else, she gouged one of her own eyes out. This somehow managed to impress Dr. Francis Dulmacher who runs the place. Now he’s hired her to manage it, but she’s still imprisoned on an island.
So is Mooney doomed on Gotham? Not necessarily, the writers might want to keep the story open for Pinkett Smith to return as a guest star or series regular. Fans will have to wait and find out which way the writers decide to take Mooney’s story!
