Gotham season 1, episode 9, “Harvey Dent,” aired last night and it set up some incredible events for next week, but that’s about all.

Childhood Shipping

Gordon gets to his apartment with Selina and notices the note she left him, telling him she left. A sketch artists arrives to get Selina’s description of the man who shot the Waynes, and Gordon tells her she’ll be staying at Wayne manor since she’s orphaned. When Gordon asks Alfred to hold her up he’s hesitant, but Bruce is okay with it. Bruce finally meets Selina face to face, and they’re kind of adorable.

Alfred is teaching Bruce to fight when Selina walks in, and gets all judgy on how they’re training with gloves. It’s clear with the scene that Alfred doesn’t like her, but she doesn’t care.

Later Bruce tries to talk to Selina, but when he brings up her parents and where they are she runs off saying she’s not an orphan. Alfred then calls Gordon to get him to take Selina away, but Gordon won’t and says he’ll be there to talk to her later.

Selina is caught trying to leave by Bruce, and she explains she wasn’t upset earlier. The subject goes to the night Bruce’s parents died, and Bruce thinks he could’ve done something but Selina explains that he couldn’t have. And then Selina explains her mother is a secret agent for the government who is on a mission and that’s why she’s not with her, but we have a feeling that’s a lie.

Selina then catches Bruce “training,” as he’s trying to hold his breath in the pool for as long as possible. She tells him that stuff like this won’t get him far in Gotham because he needs to be ruthless, and that’s something he’s not. Then later during dinner Selina tells Bruce that if he hits her then she’ll let him kiss her, and Bruce goes WILD trying to hit her. Boy’s thirsty. Alfred notices this and calls Gordon to let him know she’s actually a breath of fresh air.

Is it bad that we ship them? Is that legal?

Fish Bombs

A prisoner transplant at the local prison goes awry then the prisoner sneaks a matchbook with him that he folds into an origami as a team of criminals manages to crash the transport van and get him out.

Bullock gets on the case and informs Gordon, and they bring in the prisoner’s brother for questioning. He says he hasn’t been in contact with his brother and doesn’t know where he is. As he talks about how his brother is a good man, footage shows his brother making a bomb hidden in some basket for someone.

Someone then takes that basket (filled with goodies) to the police officers at the Gotham Munitions Factory and before they realize it’s a bomb it goes off. The next day Bullock lets the Captain and Gordon know about how the team that bombed the factory did so to steal explosive ingredients.

Ed tells Gordon and Bullock about a nameplate that was found in the shrapnel from the bomb, and the prisoner was the one responsible for putting it there. It looks like he doesn’t want to be making bombs so he’s trying to lead the police there. Gordon and Bullock get there and he explains these people kidnapped them, and they’re planning something against Falcone. The people who kidnapped him show up but luckily Bullock and Gordon manage to take them on, however they also took the prisoner back.

They then realize that Mooney is behind this, she’s the one who hired the Russians to take care of Falcone. She gets the Russians to do another job: to steal some of Falcone’s money. Gordon and Bullock manage to stop the bust in time but then Butch calls the bomb, which sets it off and sends all of Falcone’s money into the wind. It wasn’t the Russian’s bomb that blew up the money, it was Mooney’s. The goal wasn’t to keep it, but to get rid of it to scare Falcone.

Getting Scared

Montoya, Allen and Gordon run into Harvey Dent as he’s letting a kid go off a coin bet. They talk to him about who really killed the Waynes and need his help to solve the case. Dent tells them about a man named Dick LoveCraft, who had a deal with Falcone, Maroni and the Waynes. He also had this huge disagreement with the Waynes about the future of Gotham.

Dent wants to use their witness to go after him, to announce they have a huge witness to the shooting of the Waynes. This way whoever was involved gets nervous and starts talking, and Dent agrees to leave names out of it because it would compromise people’s safety.

Dent calls in LoveCraft, telling him about the witness. LoveCraft doesn’t believe him, and threatens him but then Dent shows his other side (his angry side) and kind of scares him a bit. So the plan worked, LoveCraft is jittery.

Sneaky Penguin

Cobblepot sneaks into Liza’s apartment to look for clues or information he can use, and starts sniffing her clothes and ends up stealing them like the creeper she is. She notices something’s off but he gets away before she gets outside to check.

Cobblepot then arrives at Mooney’s “just to say hello.” But really he’s there to sniff her to see if he smells like Liza’s perfume, and she does.

Then he goes back to Liza’s place, this time to talk to her. He lets her know that he knows about how she’s working for Mooney, and threatens to tell Falcone. She doesn’t want that to happen, so she makes a deal with him: He won’t tell, and if she tells a soul about their meeting she will die.
