Gotham just aired its sixth episode of the season, “Spirit of the Goat,” and we saw a side of Bullock we never thought we would.

Old Bullock

Ten years ago Bullock was just like Gordon: He wanted to catch the murderers and solve the cases just as bad as Gordon wants now. We see this as he covers the case of the Spirit of the Goat, a man who kidnaps and kills Gotham’s richest children.

Back then Bullock’s partner was a guy named Dicks, who was just like Bullock is now: Alcoholic, doesn’t care, doesn’t believe in heroes. They find the place the murderer is, and go in after him despite Dicks’ hesitation. In the end Bullock shoots the murderer in the chest several times, but Dicks falls through the stage and ends up in a wheelchair.

Now, ten years later, there’s a copy cat around doing the same thing. And Bullock is pissed.

Baaaad Man

Gordon and Bullock show up at the morgue where the the pathologist explains that this is just like the murders ten years ago. Including the sewn in coin at the base of the skull. But you know what’s weird? Bullock and the police never included the coin in any of their reports. They kept it out because they knew the case would warrant copycats, but how did the copycat know about the coin? Only three people know about the coin: Bullock, Dicks, and the pathologist from ten years ago. The pathologist is dead, though, so Bullocks goes to talk to Dicks.

Dicks says he never told anyone, so the only answer here is that the Goat killer didn’t work alone. There’s someone who worked with the Goat ten years ago and there’s someone who’s working with him now. Gordon and Bullock then go to talk to the parents of the first new victim, and their family therapist tells Bullock that they can’t handle this so they leave. Then they realize the old murderer had access to his victims’ houses, so they start looking into the people who work at the victim’s home.

They discover that the murderer of these recent crimes is indeed and employee of the home from the first victim, as well as the second victim that just got taken. Bullocks follows his gut and finds the new victim and the murderer in the same place he found them ten years ago. A fight breaks out but in the end Gordon and Bullock manage to capture the new murderer. He doesn’t say anything in interrogation, though – he just clenches his fists.

Bullocks realizes that the parents of the first victim were also clutching their firsts, so he goes to talk to the family therapist. He uncovers that it was the therapist that hypnotized the murderer ten years ago, and also hypnotized the murderer now. In the end Bullocks shoots her in the foot so she doesn’t get away and takes her to the precinct for questioning.

Momma Cobblepot

Through-out the episode we see Cobblepot back home with his momma – he’s officially stopped caring about anyone knowing he’s alive, apparently. Their dynamic is odd, essentially a mother smothering her child with love and him accepting all her treatment like a child would. She even gives him a sponge bath at one point and we can’t tell if how disturbed we still are from it.

Afterwards Cobblepot decides to visit the station, giving Gordon and Bullock the surprise of a lifetime.

Not So Dead

Montoya and Allen are at the docks trying to find a witness to Gordon’s murder of Cobblepot and find a homeless man who saw the whole thing. So they go to arrest Gordon, but when they bring him into the station the Captain has a problem with them arresting her officers.

However in the middle of their dispute, Gordon says he never killed Cobblepot and no one believes him. That is until Cobblepot walks in with a brand new suit (courtesy of his mother) and announces himself. Well, Gordon and Bullock are screwed now.
