Gotham was over run with a deadly drug on Gotham season 1, episode 5, “Viper.” Find out what happened with our recap!

Over at Wayne manor, Bruce is obsessed with learning the mobs hold over Gotham. Alfred is worried that Bruce is obsessing over something that’s a waste of his time. It’s clear that it doesn’t matter what Alfred says, Bruce is going to keep digging into the truth.

The Mob

Maroni wants to continue his plan to take over Falcone and his next step is to mess with the casino. Oswald lurks from the corner and listens to the plan.

Later, Oswald tells Maroni that he knows a way into the casino. He also, foolishly, admits his real identity to Maroni Who doesn’t hesitate to knock him out.

The Falcone family has a lovely meeting where they fight about the power Maroni is gaining. Mooney puts up a front and backs Falcone. But it seems like others are worried about Falcone loosing his touch as well.

Viper

On the streets, Stan Potolsky drops his drug into a street performers guitar case. The vial instructs for the drug to be breathed in. It instantly gives the performer god like strength.

Bullock attempts to introduce Gordon to best burger in the city but he gets distracted by a sighting of Selina Kyle. However, she manages to escape without being caught when an alarm goes off.

Gordon enters a local convenience store to find an ATM ripped out of the wall. The owner describes how a man came in stealing milk and then used his bare hands to take the ATM. A review of the security footage confirms his story. They also found the vial on the scene that Nygma found traces of the drug.

Bullock and Gordon track down the drugged up man who tells them that something is wrong. He describes the man who gave it to him with a mangled ear. But when they try to subdue him he grabs his trusty ATM. Ouch – he loses his strength and is crushed by the ATM. It seems something was wrong after all.

Back on the streets, Stan is handing out the drug to everyone he sees. Nygma explains to Gordon and Bullock that the drug, Viper, unlocks unused DNA and burns calcium in the bones for fuel. That explains why they drink milk like crazy until their bones crumble.

Oswald in trouble

Gordon is approached by Maroni’s man who tells him that they have Oswald. He threatens to expose the truth if Gordon doesn’t go with him. At the restaurant Maroni tells Gordon that if he doesn’t find out the truth than someone is going to die.

So Gordon tells Maroni the truth starting with the Wayne’s murder. Maroni laughs it off and tells Oswald that he loves him and now they’re weapons against Falcone. It looks like Gordon is in debt to another mob boss.

An old friend

They track down Stan’s old professor at Gotham U who stayed in touch with him. The professor tells Gordon and Bullock that the company he worked for, Wellzyn, got into some dark corners working on pharmaceutical weapons to build an army of super strong soldiers.

Viper, was the first batch, he says. Venom was the second but Stan convinced the Wayne’s to shut the program down. Stan gave out Viper to prove how dangerous it was, the professor explains. But before they can discover where Stan is the professor takes some Viper and attacks Bullock. Gordon has to shoot him to save Bullock.

Bruce Wayne Enterprises

Stan disguises himself as a waiter to get himself into a charity function for Bruce Wayne Enterprises. Bruce Wayne is accompanied by Alfred at the event where Stan plans to release Viper into the air. As Stan hooks the drug up to the central air system the party continues on.

Bruce questions an employee on the board members but is told they’re not in attendance. He wants to understand the irregularities in the Arkham Project and requests a meeting with them. She says she will but we’re not sure she’s serious. But as she talks they’re interrupted by a video feed from Stan.

He says that Wayne Enterprises is funding the Viper project. Stan hopes to demonstrate what will happen and they see it being released in through the vents. Alfred throws his jacket over Bruce as they go to escape.

Outside, Gordon shoots the container of Viper which releases it back into the air. Stand is surrounded and it over takes him. Apparently the drug can’t protect the user from jumping over a building though.

Warehouse 39

Gordon goes to Wellzyn’s warehouse and finds an abandoned lab. It’s clear that someone took everything out. The employee from the party watches them from a car. Obviously she’s in on the whole thing.

Meanwhile, Mooney releases her secret weapon on Falcone. He’s instantly drawn to her when he hears her humming his favorite song in the park. Falcone does have a weakness after all.
