Tonight we attended the first ever screening for Fox’s Gotham, and we’re here to tell you it’s absolutely worth the watch! Check out our spoiler free review of their latest project.

Fox’s Gotham is something that should absolutely be on your watch list if it isn’t already. Even if you’re not a huge Batman fan and know almost nothing about the world, you’ll still be able to enjoy and appreciate the awesomeness that is Gotham City and its heroes and villains.

The show starts off with the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents. David Mazouz does a fantastic job portraying a young and victimized Bruce, who had to deal with the sudden disappearance of his parents right in front of him. We’re really looking forward to seeing him more often as the show progresses, to see how he becomes the Bruce Wayne we know today.

And of course, Ben Mackenzie did an amazing job with his portrayal of James Gordon, the newbie at Gotham City PD. Mackenzie’s chemistry with Donal Logue is extraordinary, and their partnership is a complicated and exciting part of the pilot. Harvey Bullock knows how the city works, and James Gordon knows how it should work, and the pilot of Gotham shows that in one of the clearest ways possible.

But let’s not forget the rest of the amazing cast that we got to see in the pilot! Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney is frightening and riveting all at the same time, while Robin Taylor pulls off a version of the Penguin that no one has ever seen before but quite possibly is the best version of the Penguin anyone has seen in any of the DC works.

The appearances of Selina Kyle, Alfred Pennyworth, Ivy Pepper, Barbara Kean and Edward Nygma make the Gotham pilot something worth watching for their character portrayals alone, and the action is just the icing on the cake.

Gotham premieres on Fox on September 22, 2014.
