Gotham has big plans for season 2, but more importantly, it looks like they’ve learned from their past mistakes.

There’s no denying that Gotham lost some of its fans last season, and it didn’t go unnoticed by the cast and crew. The series will learn from what the audience didn’t like and has gotten rid of the procedural element. That means Gotham season 2 will be more serialized with story arcs fans can follow.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ben McKenzie stated that the mistake the show made early on was “trying to introduce a villain and take care of that villain in one episode: catch them, send them to Arkham, do whatever.” Adding that it was something which never should have been done.

Another hurtle from Gotham season 1 was how many breaks it went on after the season was expanded. “We were going to have one break and come back and finish the rest of [the episodes] in terms of the airing,” explained McKenzie. “Then we added six more, so we had to break again and then we had to come back again. And it’s hard for the audience to follow that many changes in a series in terms of when it’s airing and when it’s not.”

Hopefully, that means we won’t be experiencing as many breaks in season 2 this year, especially since Fox has moved some its other series to air mid-season.

McKenzie seems confident that Gotham fans won’t be disappointed in season 2, saying, “I think it’s exactly what the fans want to see.”
