There are lots of characters that have becoming shining stars on Gotham, but Edward Nygma has quickly become one of our favorites.

He’s a loyal friend

One wouldn’t expect a to-be super villain a good friend, but Nygma is. Especially to Gordon who has shown him kindness where others haven’t. When Gordon got fired from his job at the GCPD, Nygma was one of the few people to stand beside him. It was touching to see Nygma show this softer side of him. As well as a bit humorous, since basically all of his social interactions are quite awkward.

Nygma knows how to bring life to a murder scene (no pun intended)

Okay let’s face it, the part of every episode where Bullock and Gordon learn about their next case can be a little dull. Unless of course, Nygma is there to bring something extra special. Usually in the form of a riddle that annoys Bullock and delights the fans.

He’s not intimated by those with more power than him

Nygma may be destined to join the big leagues of villains in Gotham, but he’s no where close to that yet. However, Penguin is pretty well suited with connections in the mob. That doesn’t stop Nygma from approaching Penguin to ease his curiosity.

Nygma really knows how to charm the ladies (except not at all)

Something that’s disarmingly adorable about Nygma is that he has no idea how to interact with women. Especially those that he finds attractive. This can be seen with how he tries to flirt with Kristen, but usually ends up confusing her.

He works hard just for the love of the job

Even though he doesn’t get recognized for all of his hard work (except maybe by Gordon) it doesn’t stop Nygma. He seems unable to stop himself from going above and beyond his job in order to make sure that all the evidence is found. Even if it means upsetting those above him.

We can already see hints of The Riddler

This probably makes us happiest of all. Seeing those glimpses into who Edward Nygma will become one day. We practically swoon whenever he says a riddle. But it was amazing seeing him taking charge and getting back at someone who’d done him wrong. Even if it meant dismantling body parts, breaking into a private locker, and ruining their lives.
