This week fans of Gotham got a startling jolt of reality that no one is safe in the city of corruption.

One of the minor story arcs on Gotham has been Bruce realizing that even his family’s company isn’t free from the corruption of the city. The problem is, he doesn’t know exactly how it’s helping the mob. But he’s anxious to get to the truth and stop it so that he can restore his family’s business back to it’s original goal of helping others.

But of course, not everyone is happy that Bruce is digging into the company’s business with the mob. Despite trying to flake him off, the board members can’t ignore Bruce forever. And once they do meet with him, what he has to say worries them. With Bruce threatening legal action against all of them, the board members can’t treat him like a child anymore. Maybe Alfred should have been more worried about what would happen when Bruce showed his intent so soon? Especially when it became clear after an attack from assassins that Wayne Manor isn’t the most secure place in Gotham.

What Alfred probably wasn’t expecting was for the board members to hire one of his own close friends to do recon on Bruce. Despite always wanting to be extra careful, Alfred couldn’t deny Bruce when he wanted Reggie to stay with them for a few days. And no one caught any wind of what he was really up to until the final night. When Alfred caught Reggie trying to leave with some of the Wayne riches (which we suspect was a clever cover up) he was surprised. Alfred offered to help Reggie, but his real intent was to take Alfred out of the picture. After stabbing Alfred, Reggie made a quick getaway.

It seems like Reggie wasn’t actually trying to kill Alfred like the board wanted. After all, he is a trained killer. So surely if he wanted to kill Alred, Reggie would have known a better spot to stab him. Instead, this will more likely serve as a distraction and then a warning to Bruce. Could Bruce feel so guilty for what happened to Alfred that he stops digging into what the company is up to? We doubt this. After some time Bruce will still want to know what’s happening, especially since he is to take it over one day.

But the more important question is will the board members go after Bruce next? Not likely. They wanted to learn what information Bruce really had. And they were happy to find out that he only had theories as to what was going on. Not any hard evidence to bring against the board members. As long as it stays that way they probably won’t have any need to bring more negative attention to the company.

After all, doesn’t the city love Wayne Enterprises so much because of the family behind it? As long as the board members are safe from any trouble and they still have years away from Bruce becoming of age, they wouldn’t want to risk the company losing any money.

We’re not sure what will happen for Bruce in the reason of Gotham season 1. If Alfred remains in the hospital, someone will have to look over Bruce. And that might mean that he doesn’t have time to look into what’s going on. Or if he realizes what actually happened, it might just make him want to investigate even more.

What do you think will happen to Bruce on ‘Gotham’ season 1?
