With Dr. Leslie Thompkins being introduced to Gotham as a possible love interest, it has us wondering if she would be a better match for Gordon than Barbara Kean.

Barbara Kean

With little chemistry evident between them, it’s no secret that fans have been wondering why Gordon is in a relationship with Barbara. Other than seeming to be concerned about her being used as bait against him, there isn’t much romance in the air around them. Plus, they don’t seem quite compatible.

Gordon is seen going above and beyond the call of his career of a detective to try and clean up the city. Meanwhile, Barbara is an art gallery owner with a tenant for drugs and cheating. Even her lover, Renee Montoya calls Barbara “toxic.” It’s only after being dumped by Montoya that Barbara decides that maybe she needs Gordon after all.

Even though Gordon hasn’t seen or heard from Barbara in some time, he doesn’t seem that torn up about it. Not as much as one would expect from a future wife. It could be argued that he’s happy that she’s out of the reach from the mob – but we’re not convinced of that.

Currently, Barbara believes that Gordon has moved on to other woman. When she called the apartment, Ivy picked up and pretended to be his lover. We’re not sure if that will put Barbara off for some time or not. Still, we’re not under the illusion that their relationship is completely over.

Dr. Leslie Thompkins

It’s clear from the first time that Leslie and Gordon meet that there is a chemistry between him. Even the inmate they are looking after tells the two of them to get a room.

Not only does she call him the “famous” detective but Leslie informs him that all the girls are talking about him. Does that mean that she’s been talking about him too? We hope so. Leslie does make it clear that she thinks Gordon is brave for taking on city hall. Even if it’s landed him demoted to a guard.

It seems like Leslie is the first person to understand Gordon’s decision not to quit all together. Everyone else has wondered why Gordon doesn’t just quit. Not only does she think he’s brave, but also admirable. They also both seem to be part of the few staff members at Arkham who actually care about the inmates well being.

The pair also seems to work well together, and although Gordon cares about her well being – he trusts Leslie to help him get the job done. Unlike Barbara who seems to hinder him, Leslie seems to be more of an equal.

Aside from that, their time together also seems to come easy and is entertaining for the fans to watch. It would definitely be interesting to see the two interact outside of work and it’s surely something on our wish list.

Who would you rather see Gordon with on ‘Gotham’?
