Penguin is all alone in the world, until he meets his father by chance on Gotham 2×15 “Mad Grey Dawn.”
Penguin really hasn’t had it easy lately on Gotham, after going to war with Galavan he lost everything. All of his followers, including Butch, abandoned him which left him without power. His mother was killed, then he took the fall for killing Galavan and was sent to Arkham.
At Arkham, Penguin became an experiment for Hugo Strange. After being tortured repeatedly, Penguin became complacent and did whatever they wanted of him. After a serious of test that actually put Penguin in danger, Strange deemed Penguin cured and let him free.
Despite all of these troubles, it looks like things might be turning around for Penguin. A chance encounter at his mother’s grave has Penguin meeting his biological father. Elijah Van Dalh claims that he knew Penguin’s mother many years ago and never knew that she’d had a child after they had been together. The question is, is it really a coincidence that Penguin met Elijah? Or does the man claiming to be his father have something more sinister up his sleeves?

Elijah takes Penguin to his home, where his father has a wife and other children. They seem quite well off which begs the question, why wouldn’t Gertrud try and get help? Perhaps she was trying to protect her son from them? We’ll just have to hold our breath and hope that Penguin still has his wits about him until the truth is revealed.
