HBO’s House of the Dragon is officially on the way!
On Monday (April 26), HBO took to its socials to share that Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon is officially in production. Via a newly launched Twitter handle for the series, it was also revealed to fans that they can expect to see the series debut via HBO Max sometime next year in 2022.
“Fire will reign,” tweeted the prequel series. “The HBO original series #HouseoftheDragon is officially in production. Coming soon to HBO Max in 2022.”
Today’s announcement tweet was paired with a snapshot from a recent table read for the series attended by all of the principle cast and crew.

The series official Twitter account followed up by sharing individual pictures of all of the principle cast at the table read, which you can check out by heading over to their account linked above.
House of the Dragon, which was given a straight to series order back in October 2019, is set to be based off of George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, a historic telling of the saga of House Targaryen.
It takes place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and stars Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno.
Behind the camera, the series was co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal. Condal will split show running duties along with Thrones alum Miguel Sapochnik. Additionally, Sapochnik will also helm the pilot episode in addition to other episodes in the series first season.
House of the Dragon debuts via HBO Max in 2022.
