The Veronica Mars movie will be bringing back the season 1 character Carrie Bishop, but Leighton Meester won’t be reprising her role!

Before she became known for her role as Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, Leighton Meester appeared in the first season of Veronica Mars as the character Carrie Bishop.

The character will appear in the upcoming Veronica Mars movie, but writer Rob Thomas has now revealed that despite efforts to bring Meester back to the project, the actress is sadly unavailable.

“One of the reasons I wanted Leighton, beyond her talent/beauty/history in the show, was that we needed a performer who could sing in this important role,” Thomas writes.

And as Carrie Bishop apparently plays too significant of a part in the movie to be cut, lead singer of the band Twin Sister Andrea Estella will be taking over the role.

“[She] has an amazing voice, I can’t get enough of it,” Thomas says, adding that a few of Twin Sister’s songs will now be included in the film.

In the Veronica Mars television series, Carrie Bishop appears in the episode “Mars vs. Mars,” as a mean high school student who accuses Veronica’s (Kristen Bell) favourite teacher of having an affair with her.

We can’t imagine what she’ll be up to now, more than 10 years down the line!

‘A Message from Andrea’

Andrea Estella has written a message to the Veronica Mars fans who backed the original Kickstarter campaign in which she explains how she became involved with the movie:

Hello Backers!

This is the first movie I’ve ever appeared in.

I had never seen Veronica Mars before all of this. I’ve been increasingly interested in finding new TV shows to plow through. I watched the Veronica Mars Pilot and was totally into it! It’s the exact kind of show I would get obsessed with, so it’s been a bit of dream to be in a movie, especially being a messed up rock princess. How could I say no? I think the VM fans are going to be very happy!

Thank you Rob Thomas for thinking of Twin Sister and myself. And super thanks to everyone who donated to Kickstarter! What fun to help fund a film you’re really into. Such an amazing, fun, dreamy, kawaii, fantasy experience!!
