Sony and Scholastic are developing a Goosebumps movie based on the hit series by R.L. Stine, and today we’re learning that Jack Black is in talks for the lead role.

According to The Wrap, Black would play “a Stine-like author whose scary characters literally leap off the page, forcing him to hide from his own creepy creations.” We assume that the movie would follow the Stine-like character’s attempts to regain control of his world and rid it of the creatures.

Stine’s Goosebumps series has sold over 300 million copies worldwide, and a new movie would score major nostalgia points with young adults who had read the books as they were growing up.

We’d love to see Goosebumps characters like Slappy the Dummy, Mr. Wood, and Murder the Clown.

The film will be directed by Rob Letterman, who Black worked with on Gulliver’s Travels and the animated movie Shark Tale.

Do you think Black is a good choice for ‘Goosebumps’?

The movie does not yet have a release date. It is being adapted by Sony Pictures and Scholastic Entertainment. The Goosebumps book series spawned a television show which ran from 1995 – 1998 on the Fox Kids network in the United States. It was broadcast around the world on other networks as well.

Stine still writes Goosebumps books to this day.
