Google’s new venture Google Fiber includes internet and telvision services that rival all current competition and it has finally arrived on both sides of the Kansas / Missouri state line. It’s truly a game-changer that will radically improve the way we access our favorite fandoms via the internet and TV.

Insanely Fast Internet

You’re most likely currently running on 10Mbps internet speed at best, where as with Google Fiber you’ll be seeing speeds of up to 1000Mbps, literally 100 times the average U.S. speed. Where this really comes into play for you TV and movie fans is that you’ll be able to instantly stream your favorite movies and TV shows in 1080P (HD).

Imagine being able to download a Blu-ray quality movie to your tablet or laptop in less than 10 minutes, or Team Starkid being able to upload their two-and-a-half hour Very Potter Senior Year in a matter of minutes as opposed to waiting hours for the video to be uploaded to YouTube. All of this and more will be possible as Google Fiber makes its way across the U.S.

Television Revolution

In addition to the high-speed internet, Google is also premiering their own TV service that will provide you with a similar amount of channels currently available through your local cable provider. The difference is, they’re offering you a free Nexus 7 Tablet to control your television’s cable box, and will be giving you 1TB worth of storage on Google Drive, their new cloud storage system. Oh, and did we mention they’ll give you a storage box with 2TB of space for all your recordings, which can record up to eight shows simultaneously?

That’s nearly every season of Supernatural and Doctor Who all on one box that’s connected to your television. Compare that to your current setup, which is most likely stuck at recording two shows at a time, while storing maybe 10 movies or 20 tv shows before throwing up the “need more space” error.

Competitive Pricing

Don’t get scared away, but the initial construction fee of $300 is required to get the fiber installed in your home. After the installation, there will be three packages available to choose from. As we stated, don’t worry too much about the $300 bucks because two of the options allow you to completely waive the upfront construction fee and the other allows you to pay it over time.

First Package: $120

For $120 a month, the first is the “Gigabit + TV” package, which includes 1TB of storage, internet, and loads of channels. This will include major broadcast networks and “hundreds of fiber channels,“including on-demand movies and TV shows.” Don’t get too excited, as premium movie channels will continue to cost us an additional monthly fee. Google is waiving the $300 construction fee for new customers for a limited time. So if you’re currently in Kansas, be sure to check that out.

Second Package: $70

The second package is $70 per month and is the “Gigabit-only” package, which includes the 1000Mbps internet speeds and 1TB of cloud storage on Google Drive, but none of the TV options are included.

Third Package: Free

The third package that Google is offering is pretty impressive, as they’re offering “average broadband speeds” for free. This means you’ll be looking at 5Mbps down and 1Mbps up, but this is the option which requires you to pay the construction fee of $300. This can be paid upfront, or through monthly payments over time.

Pre-register Now

While Google sees this as somewhat of an experiment as of now, we’re looking forward to seeing Google Fiber spread like wildfire across the U.S. Has anyone in the Kansas / Missouri area already pre-registered for Google Fiber? Know that the more people that pre-register in your area, the quicker it will arrive. So pre-register at Google Fiber’s website and be sure to tell your friends!
