Google’s next iteration of their Android operating system will be named “Kit Kat,” and they’ve teamed up with the candy bar of the same name to promote the release.

“Kit Kat” follows in a long line of yummy names for Google’s mobile operating system. Previous versions have been called “Cupcake,” “Donut,” “Eclair,” “Froyo,” “Gingerbread,” “Honeycomb,” “Ice Cream Sandwich,” and “Jelly Bean.” This is the first time Google is going with a brand name.

The mobile company said that they chose “Kit Kat” because “everybody finds it difficult to stay away from chocolate.” We’re sure Nestle couldn’t resist a big promotion with the largest mobile operating system, too.

The candy company reportedly did not pay to collaborate with Google, and vice versa.

Taking it a step further, Google has teamed up with Nestle to promote Android. By purchasing a Kit Kat bar with the green Android robot on the wrapper, you may open it up to find a coupon for a free Nexus 7 or credit to be used in the Google Play Store. It’s like living in the Willy Wonka movie!

A release date and special features for Android OS 4.4 “Kit Kat” have yet to be revealed, but we’ll be sure to share details once they’re announced.

The latest release named “Jelly Bean” boasted improvements like user profiles, built-in security protection, and more useful notification actions.
