As production continues to ramp up on the BBC Studios and Amazon Prime adaptation of Good Omens, we’re getting more first looks at the characters.

While we learned that Jon Hamm would be joining the cast as Gabriel back in October, we’re now seeing just what the Mad Men star will look like in the series.

Courtesy of Neil Gaiman’s Twitter, of course.

“Gabriel is everything that Aziraphale isn’t: he’s tall, good-looking, charismatic and impeccably dressed,” Gaiman said of Hamm’s casting. “We were fortunate that Jon Hamm was available, given that he is already all of these things without even having to act. We were even more fortunate that he’s a fan of the books and a remarkable actor.”

We couldn’t have put it any better than Gaiman, and are deeply, madly in love with that coat – and color – on Hamm, which was tailored under the direction of costume designer, Claire Anderson. She said of the outfit, and character, “Gabriel is the leader of the angels, and the most stylish and impeccably dressed of all of them, so we chose an immaculately tailored suit that Jon Hamm wears to perfection, in light colours, along with lilac accessories to bring out Gabriel’s unnerving violet eyes.”

And bring out his eyes it does.

Gaiman and Anderson weren’t the only ones to comment on the reveal. Jon Hamm also provided a statement, telling the BBC, “I read Good Omens almost 20 years ago. I thought it was one of the funniest, coolest books I’d ever read. It was also, obviously, unfilmable. Two months ago Neil sent me the scripts, and I knew I had to be in it.”

With Good Omens being such a long time coming to the small screen, it’s heartening to hear that the actors involved love the source material just as much as Gaiman himself.

Gaiman – who co-wrote the novel on which the series will be based with Terry Pratchett – also revealed the first official image of David Tennant’s Crowley, and Michael Sheen’s Aziraphale back in September.

‘Good Omens’ is expected to premiere in 2019 on Amazon Prime, and later on BBC 2
