Yes, you read that headline right. A 16GB iPhone 5S just sold on eBay for $10,000.

Last week, Apple released the highly-anticipated iPhone 5s in silver, space grey and gold configurations alongside the more affordable iPhone 5c. The gold and silver versions of the iPhone 5s were shipped in very limited quantities with some stores getting only 3-5 units in total.

The Connecticut-based eBay user “Papakar” just sold his unlocked gold iPhone 5s for $10,000 which included 51 bids. But that’s not all! Some other gold iPhone 5s devices are selling on eBay for up to $4,000. One can only assume that the limited quanitites of the device is the reason people, likely in countries or areas where the iPhone 5s is unavailable, are willing to spend that much money. A gold iPhone 5s retails for $649 in the United States.

Complex.com also notes that an actual 24k gold iPhone sells in the U.K. for $4,646.

Over the weekend, Apple sold 9 million iPhone 5s and 5c units combined making it the most successful iPhone launch in history. “This is our best iPhone launch yet―more than nine million new iPhones sold―a new record for first weekend sales,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

U.S. customers can purchase a 16GB Apple iPhone 5s for $199 with a new 2-year contract.
