The first trailer for Godzilla starring Bryan Cranston has just been released!

Gojira, the first movie in the Godzilla series, was released in 1954. 2014 will mark the 60 year anniversary for that, and it’s the perfect time to reboot the franchise. The last time the monster was on screen was in 2004 with the release of Godzilla: Final Wars.

Check out the Godzilla trailer below:

“I realize not all of you have had hands on experience,” says an unidentified leader who is speaking to his troops who are tasked with taking down the monster. “Frankly, none of us have ever faced a situation quite like this one before. I would not be asking any one of you to take this leap if I did not have complete faith in your ability to succeed. Your courage will never be more needed than it is today.”

The trailer relies heavily on silence and standard but epic trailer sound effects to emphasize how big of a monster Godzilla is.

This rendition of the Godzilla story boasts an unbelievable cast. Coming off an incredible run as the infamous Walter White on Breaking Bad, this will be Bryan Cranston’s first major role, and we couldn’t be more excited. Cranston makes everything he does better, and having him in a lead role in a franchise we already love couldn’t be more perfect.

Godzilla also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson who is perhaps most famous for his titular role in the Kick-Ass movies. Also starring is Elizabeth Olsen. Taylor-Johnson and Olsen will of course be teaming up once again as the brother-sister duo of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: The Age of Ultron.

The film is being produced by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy) conceptualized the story while Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son) heads up the screenwriting team.

Godzilla will hit theaters on May 16, 2014.
